I watched the movie Playing for Keeps today. Not because I'm a Gerard Butler fan, but because Life of Pi costed 600 bucks while this costed half of that and we had time to kill. So what's the story? Gerard Butler plays a soccer legend. His young lover is Jessica Beil. They are hopelessly in love, they get married and procreate. But that is not the story. The story is that his glory days are over and he screwed things up and didn't give a crap about his wife or son and is back after many years to make amends. But one problem. She is getting married to another guy (James Tupper) and this one has been faithful,dutiful and responsible with her and her son for three whole years without asking for much in return. Butler wants to show that he has finally become an adult so takes up a job as a soccer coach for the soccer team that his 9year old son plays in. My friend (who is dying of body ache right now) just happend to download those movies through her magic sources right at the time I was going to meet her. So these are the two movies we watched: 1.What to expect when you are expecting And  2.Easy A  What to expect when you are expecting can be summed up through my friends epiphanies during the movie....which are listed below- 1 . A little after the beginning "all the women in this movie are pregnant!" 3. during the climax of the movie   "so they get pregnant in the beginning and they deliver the baby in the end. The title for this post is a line from a book that I recently read and loved. Its called The Flying Man.  He doesn't fly. Not in the aeronautical sense of the word atleast. He is a practical dreamer. One who hates and refuses to be chained. And what are these chains? At first it was just the family in Pakistan. then it becomes his first wife Carine. She devotes herself to him and he can't stand it. He can't stand her. One day he just leaves her without any explanation and shifts to another country. I am a person who loves funny and nonsensical things.This isn't a funny novel but I still think its top notch. It isn't serious either. It is not an adventure novel either but you want to know what happens next. What is he up to? Where is he going now? How will he react to this?There are so many layers to this story. I doubt I can do justice to each one.This is a quick read that keeps you thinking about the story long after you are done with it. The Flying M...

  Among the ab, fab and drab in the movie Student of the Year, there is an issue staring at the audience face. The dean in Student of the Year is shown to have homosexual tendencies. The role is played of Dean Vahisht is played by Rishi Kapoor. ‘Student of the Year’ award is Dean Vashisht’s brain child. The student who excels in academics, athletics and arts is named Student of the Year. Toward the end, he is accused of using the competition as a means of pitting friends against each other and inculcating spite (That was a spoiler BTW). He himself is a lonely man and spends most of his time with his mom, saplings or dreaming about the coach. Looking at this character portrayal, I realised how far Indians or atleast Indian cinema has come in accepting homosexuality. I watched Student Of the Year I saw the three lead actors and thought to myself,'Who are these people?' This highlights the fact that I am growing old. I can't keep up with the trends of the youth. Things change too fast. Excuse my midlife crisis in between the blogpost. It tends to come out at the oddest times.Mom rolled her eyes,she knew the actors AND the songs.
