So....

When I am short of cash ,which is close to never because I am terrific at Living On Little ('LOL' I call it), I stay away from movie halls, malls, book stores and hypermarkets. When I have extra money, I feel consumerist tendencies flowing through my blood. It is this beautiful evil temptation to splurge and make your wallet feel lighter.
It's not the question of what I should buy. It's just that I should buy.Period.
So.. I bought this book called The Comedians by Graham Greene.
This sounds like a fun book, I said to myself.
Little did I know that a dose of realism was in store for me.

Whats the Story?
It is set in Haiti . The country is under the regime of Papa Doc: A dictator that noone wants to rebel against. The main characters are Mr. Smith,Major Jones and Mr.Brown. They have singular distinguishing features. Mr. Smith is someone who wont budge from his character. Mr.Jones is someone who is untrustworthy. Mr.Brown is an untrusting realist. It's about how these white men react to Haiti. (Just google the summary, please.)

Did I Like it?
I, being the naive person that I am, bought this book thinking that it would be funny. I think the only people laughing were the publishing house people, all the way to the bank. Dark humour was present in abundance but any attempt at whimsical, caricaturist humor was met by me saying PJ under my breath . I did not find Smith's passion for vegetarianism funny in the slightest bit. Nor the tendency of Petite pierre to laugh apll the time. I think all the Christian and communist jokes went over my head.
After a while I felt like this guy.
The women associated with Mr.Brown  (Brown's mother and Brown's lover) are philanderers.Smith refuses to budge from the stance that all people are basically good and meat incites passion (thus hatred). Jones is a serial liar who fate always saves. Brow tries to be as detached from the situation as possible and succeeds with the exception of his feelings towards the ambassadors wife.He has a change of character on the end.I felt that towards the end, Greene himself lost interest in the fate of his creations. I don't have any insight into his other work, but that is how it struck me. The philosophical bits in it that come out here and there are interesting.I have a legacy of leaving books half way through.A habit I want to get rid of. Sometimes,I had to close the book because I would feel depressed after reading it. Indeed realism can make you feel worse than a tragedy can. I read it for the purpose of finishing it once and for all and so I can be all literatury and say  (in a British accent) "Yes I am acquainted with Greene's works".

*PJ is a acronym that means Poor Joke.It is meant to that the joke is was terrible. Widely used in India.

I liked Silver Lining Playbook.

Bradley Cooper is a sexy beast, but he is not a actor I take seriously. That changed slightly after I watched this movie.
It is about a man's quest to reconcile with his wife.
It's about love.
It's aboput finding that silver lining underneath all that negativity.
Its about superstitious beliefs.
It's about arriages that crumble from the inside.
It's about coping mechanisms.
Its for all the people who are dysfunctional in their own way.
